A number of researchers who use R for analysis are still more comfortable to use Excel to organize their data. This is mostly due to Excel being "more intuitive" and because it often takes time and effort to find the appropriate functions in R. If you do, however, it usually turns out to be more efficient and less error prone. For this reason, we would like to put together some useful R syntax and combine it with different ways of graphing data into a tutorial session, which should last between 3 and 4 hours.

The two sets of eye tracking glasses arrived last week. After some testing it appears that they are well suited for the purpose of building a dialogue corpus.
In order to test the system, we created a task where one dialogue partner instructs the other to build a structure form everyday-life objects. Below, you can find the dialogue script and eye movement statistics for the most important objects. If you are logged in, you can also download the two videos with the current eye position marked as an orange circle.

In trying to encourage Labex members to take advantage of our heures de consultations, we now offer the possibility to come to your lab, if there are at least 2-3 reserachers who would be interested. See here for more information

We currently plan to offer an open statistics colloquium, where we analyze real data from the participating researchers together. The goal is to give an opportunity to see the analysis of different data types in practice, and to give individual assistance. This is not a statistics course, so participants should have a background in statistics and preferrably also in R already, either from taking part in our statistics course, or some comparable source.

The course on statistical analysis of experimental data will take place December 17th and 18th. However, since there were a number of people interested, there will be a second course in January. If you are interested in taking part, please indicate your availability in this doodle poll .
